Seeing singer Al Jarreau at work is always a delight. If anyone knows how to play with his voice, it's him. He has never let himself be pinned down to one musical genre; the vocal athlete combines jazz with soul and funk seemingly effortlessly. As long as it swings, Al Jarreau knows what to do with it. Jarreau is always one of the jazz festival's main attractions. The singer can look back on a glorious singing career. On 'Tomorrow Today', his latest production with Verve, one can hear that Jarreau is by no means burned out and that he is bursting with ideas. In an interview with the AD paper, the vocal artist admitted feeling that he still owed his jazz public a big band CD. He would also like to make an album with pieces by Bach, Dvorak, Bernstein and Gershwin, recorded with a large symphony orchestra. "I want to go for all those things", he says. "I can't allow God to call me upstairs without having done that." His newest album is expected this fall.
