New wave of acts and Artist in Residence for NN North Sea Jazz 2024
The music of singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Meshell Ndegeocello is actually too encompassing to be confined to a single genre like 'jazz'. Soul, funk, and even hip-hop are equally suited to Ndegeocello. She demonstrated her versatility once again on her latest album The Omnichord Real Book in 2023, with which she won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Jazz Album earlier this year. It was her debut on the famous label Blue Note Records and the album, which was produced by saxophonist Josh Johnson, featured many North Sea Jazz stars, including Cory Henry, Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire and Brandee Younger. The Omnichord Real Book was Ndegeocello’s first album in five years and the successor to Ventriloquism from 2018, in which she gave a new interpretation to existing R&B and pop hits.
